More than half of all household water use goes into our landscape. Scottsdale’s
Water Conservation Office hosts a variety of free workshops throughout
October to provide information on how to efficiently water your yard to save
water and money.
All workshops are from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Water Operations Building, 9312
N. 94th St.
** Oct. 2: Composting — Learn about desert soils and practical methods for
making and using compost in the home garden to improve plant growth and
** Oct. 3: Potted Plants in the Landscape — Embellish your landscape by
incorporating containers! Learn the basics of choosing pots and appropriate
plants, putting them together, and successfully caring for them.
** Oct. 4: Drip Irrigation Design & Installation — Learn how to design and
install a drip irrigation system in your landscape.
** Oct. 10: Plant Selection — Find out how to choose the right plant for
the right place.
** Oct. 11: Irrigation Timer, Clock, Controller — Learn how to adjust your
irrigation clock during this hands-on workshop.
** Oct. 17: Wildflowers — Create a seasonal explosion of color using desert
** Oct. 23: Rainwater Harvesting — Learn how to improve drainage and
utilize rainwater in your landscape. Includes landscape design tips to
improve outdoor water efficiency and reduce indoor cooling cost.
** Oct. 24: Landscaping for Pools & Patios — Find out what the best
colorful and low maintenance plants are to use around the pool or patio.
** Oct. 25: Irrigation Maintenance, Troubleshooting & Repair — Learn how to
maintain, troubleshoot, and repair irrigation systems.
