POLICE DEPARTMENT BEGINS REACCREDITATION PROCESS The Scottsdale Police Department is seeking reaccreditation with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA). From Aug. 19-23, a team of assessors from CALEA will examine all aspects of the Scottsdale Police Department’s policy and procedures, management, operations, and support services. Verification by the team that the Scottsdale Police Department meets the Commission’s State of the art standards is part of a voluntary process to gain reaccreditation, a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence. The Scottsdale Police Department received accreditation for the first time in November of 1994. The department received reaccreditation in 1997, 2000 and 2003. As a part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information session from 7 to 9 p.m. Aug. 21. The session will be conducted at the Scottsdale City Hall Kiva, 3939 N. Drinkwater Blvd. If for some reason an individual cannot speak at the public information session but would still like to provide comments to the assessment team, he/she may do so by telephone. The public may call (480) 312-1995 on August 21 between the hours of 1 and 5 p.m. Telephone comments as well as appearances at the public information session are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards. A copy of the standards is available at all three Scottsdale Police stations. Persons wishing to offer written comments about the Scottsdale Police Department’s ability to meet the standards for accreditation, or wishing to receive more information about the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc., please write the Commission at 10302 Eaton Place, Fairfax, Virginia, 22030-2215; or call (800) 368-3757 or (703) 352-4225.
